Springfield-Greene County Park Board

The fourth annual Tennis Under the Lightsis Friday night (6/7) from 8 to 10 at Lafayette Park, 202 E. Atlantic in Springfield.  The courts will be lit up, and participants will get glow bracelets and necklaces.  The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will also provide equipment, music and snacks. 

Springfield Sister Cities Association presents June Jam, featuring Uke66 and MDock Band, with special guests from Springfield’s Sister City, Tlaquepaque, Mexico, Friday night at 5:45 at Shuffle, 2555 S. Campbell. 

The 2019 Classics Cruisin’ Table Rock Lake continues through Sunday (6/9) in Branson.  A mini show of the boats is planned for Saturday (6/8) from 1 to 4 p.m. at Rock Lane Marina at Indian Point.  

Rock‘n on the Edge, a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center, will be held Friday (6/7) from 4 to 11 p.m. at Jubilee Park on Jefferson between Olive and Park Central East.  Admission is $5, and the event will include live music, games, a USBG Bartender Show, a beer garden, a rappel viewing area and more. 

Springfield Little Theatre presents “Footloose the Musical” through June 23 at the Landers Theatre, 311 E. Walnut in downtown Springfield. 

The kick off of Tumble 2019: A Summer Concert Series is Friday night (6/7) from 6 to 10. The concert will feature the bands, Lovebomb, Symphony Ree Music and more.  Admission is free. 

The Downtown Diversity Pride Pageant and Fundraiser is Friday night (6/7) at 6 at the Wilder Event Center, 1208 S. Main in Joplin. 

The First Friday Art Walk is Friday night (6/7) from 6 to 10 at 22 downtown Springfield venues. 

The Movies at Founders Park Series kicks off Friday night (6/7) at dusk at Founders Park, 330 E. Walnut in Springfield with “Mary Poppins Returns.”  “The Greatest Showman:  Sing-Along” will be shown Saturday night (6/8).  Take blankets and lawn chairs. 

West Plains author, Annie England Noblin, will be at Pagination Bookshop, 1150 E. Walnut in Springfield, Friday night (6/7) at 6.  She’ll read from her latest book, “The Sisters Hemingway,” take part in a Q & A session and sign books.  Learn more here

The Springfield-Greene County Library will host “Fantastic Friday at the Republic Steam Engine Grounds” Friday morning (6/7) at 10 for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families. 

Adults are invited to see the film,“Space Cowboys,” rated PG-13, at 2 p.m. Friday (6/7) at the Library Station. 

The Downtown Branson Marble and Glass Festivalis Friday and Saturday (6/7-6/8) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You’ll be able to watch artists at work, purchase pieces and take part in a marble hunt.  A concert featuring The Petersons will start at 6 p.m. Saturday in Liberty Plaza. 

Listen to bluegrass music Friday nights from 7 to 9 through the end of September at the Roaring River State Park amphitheater.  The concert on Friday, June 7, will feature the Schuyler Valley Band.  

The fundraiser, the Grin Iron Classic, will be held at Parkview High School’s JFK Stadium Friday night (6/7) at 7:30.  The Grin Action Classic volleyball game will start Saturday morning (6/8) at 8:30 at Parkview.  Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks “Tooth Truck.” 

Springfield-Greene County Park Board pools are open for the season and will remain open through mid August.  Splash ‘n Sizzle discounts ($1 or free with a canned food item) are offered daily after 5:30 p.m.

The exhibit:  “Remembering D-Day: The 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion,” is at the Joplin History and Mineral Museum, 504 S. Schifferdecker Ave. in Joplin through August 31. 

The Meet the Makers Spring Show and Salewill be held Friday (6/7) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday (6/8) from noon to 6 p.m. at the Main Stage Creative Community Center, 67 N. Main in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  The show features a broad mix of art mediums and craft from southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas artists. 

The Heart of the Ozarks Bluegrass Association is hosting their Spring Bluegrass Festival through Saturday (6/8) at the HOBA Park, 900 Bluegrass Ln. in West Plains. 

Joplin’s Stained Glass Theatre presents “The Music Man Junior” Friday and Saturday night (6/7-6/8) at 7 and Sunday (6/9) at 2:30 at 2101 Annie Baxter Ave. in Joplin.  

The Avenue Theatre Fine Arts Academy presents “Wind in the Willows,” Friday and Saturday night (6/7-6/8) at 7 and Sunday (6/9) at 3 at the Avenue Theatre in West Plains. 

The Branson Regional Arts Council presents “Shrek the Musical, Jr.”Friday night (6/7) at 7 and Saturday and Sunday (6/8-6/9) at 2 and 7 at the Historic Owen Theatre in downtown Branson. 

The program, “Space above the Buffalo,”will be held Friday night (6/7) at 9 at the Buffalo Point Launch Day Use Area.   A ranger will discuss the night sky, the park’s wilderness concept and what the park is doing to protect the night sky. 

The Run for their Lives 5K and 1 mile walk will be he held Saturday (6/8) starting at Atchley Shelter #2 in Lebanon.  Proceeds benefit suicide awareness through Compass Health Network. 

The Run for a Vet 5K and Half Marathon will be held Saturday morning (6/8) starting at the Dewey Short Visitor Center at Table Rock Lake State Park in Branson.

C-Street Market and Springfield Sister Cities Association presentGrupo Musical Canela, a four-man band from Springfield’s sister city, Tlaquepaque, Mexico, Saturday morning (6/8) at 10 on C-Street near the Footbridge. 

The Great Springfield Bake Off will be held Saturday (6/8) from 2 to 4 at The Venues Church, 2616 E. Battlefield in Springfield.  Admission is $5 and includes five voting tickets. 

Kay Merkel Boruff will hold abook signingfor her book, “Z.O.S. A Memoir,” Saturday (6/8) from 1 to 3 at Always Buying Books, 5357 N. Main in Joplin.  It’s based on her life in Vietnam, Thailand and Laos when she was married to an Air America/CIA pilot who was killed while flying in Laos in February, 1970. 

A film workshop for kids in grades six through 12 will be held Saturday (6/8) from 2 to 4 at the Library Center. 

The Salvation Army and Westlake Ace Hardware are teaming up for a fan drive to benefit the Salvation Army Saturday (6/8) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hot dogs and drinks at 2350 S. Campbell in Springfield.  The fan drive continues through June 23, and donations can be made at any Westlake Hardware location. 

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host the Kellogg Lake Kids Fishing Dayin Carthage Saturday morning (6/8) from 9 to noon.  It’s for anyone 15 and younger.  Take your own gear if you have it.  A limited amount of fishing equipment will be available. 

The Family Fishing Fairwill be held Saturday morning (6/8) from 9 to noon at Belladonna Pond at Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery in Branson for kids 15 and younger.  Take your own equipment if you have it.   

Junior Ranger Summer Camp is Saturday (6/8) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.  Eight to twelve-year-olds will get a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a park ranger and will learn about the park. 

Kids Yoga in Nature will be held Saturday morning (6/8) at 11:15 at Wildcat Glades Pavilion in Joplin. 

A Women’s Wellness Hike will start Saturday afternoon (6/8) at 4 p.m. at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon. 

The Show Me Reptile & Exotics Show is Saturday (6/8) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant in Springfield. 

The program,“Fishable Waters,” will be held Saturday afternoon (6/8) at 1 at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon.  Play a game while learning the benefits of fish populations and how water quality and habitat affect those populations. 

The Discover Nature Go! Hike will be held Saturday morning (6/8) at 10 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Learn about the inspiration behind the digital “pocket monsters” and how they were inspired by real-world animals.  You’ll also try to catch some.  Take a data connected cellular device.  Registration is required. 

Saturday and Sunday (6/8-6/9) arefree fishing days in Missouri.  Anyone can fish for free without an MDC permit, trout permit and prescribed area daily tag. 

Second Saturday Community Crafts is Saturday (6/8) from noon to 5.  Stop by the Park Central Branch Library to work on this month’s community craft, which is a community collage.  Materials are provided. 

The West Plains Car Club Car Show will be held Saturday (6/8) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the east parking lot of the West Plains Civic Center. 

Prairie State Park in Mindenmines will host a Wildflower Walk Saturday morning (6/8) at 10. 

Pomme de Terre State Park in Pittsburg, MO will host a Hike for Health Saturday morning (6/8) at 9.  The trail is 1.5 miles.  

A motorcycle poker ride, Cruisin’ for Kids, will be held Saturday (6/8) at 8:30 a.m. starting at 3114 W. Sunshine in Springfield.  The cost is $25, and proceeds benefit kids who don’t have a safe sleeping environment. 

The second annual Poker Run to benefit Toys for Tots is Saturday (6/8) with registration from 8 to 9 a.m. at 5801 N. 21st St. in Ozark.  The cost is $20 per bike.

“Colors of Water” will be held Sunday (6/9) at 9 a.m. at the Buffalo Point Launch parking lot.  Spend an hour creating a water color painting along the Buffalo River.  Paint and paper will be provided. 

The Second Sunday Concert Series will feature The Shandies Sunday afternoon (6/9) at 2 at the Library Center.
