Children's Smile Center

The 13th annual Hot Air Balloon Glow will be held Friday night (6/21) from 5 to 11 at Finley River Park in Ozark.  Hot air balloons will inflate and glow, and you can get an up close look at them.  It’s part of the 4C Sertoma Duck Race Festival.  There will be food trucks, craft booths, a kids’ zone, beer garden and live music.  The Duck Waddle 5K starts at 8 a.m. Saturday (6/22) at Finley River Park.  Events also include a rubber duck race and fireworks. 

The program, “Kayaking: An Introduction for Women Only,” will start Friday afternoon (6/21) at 2 for ages 14 and up.  Girls 14 to 17-years-old must be accompanied by an adult.  The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is offering the program at Lake Springfield.  Registration is required. 

“Fantastic Friday at the Railroad Historical Museum” is Friday morning (6/21) at 10 at the museum at Grant Beach Park, 1300 N. Grant in Springfield.  The event will include tours of the train engine and cars, train stories and activities and a visit by the Mobile Library. 

Springfield Skate Park, 945 W. Meadowmere, will celebrate Go Skateboarding Day Friday (6/21) from 3 to 9 p.m.  Admission will be free to all skateboarders during that time.  Learn more here

The Science Sprouts program, “Human Body,” will be held Friday morning (6/21) at 10 at the Discovery Center of Springfield.  The program is free with admission to the center. 

The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield presents their annual Parade of Homes Friday through Sunday (6/21-6/23) and June 28-30. 

The program, “Ozark Astronomy,” will start Friday night (6/21) at 8:30 at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon.  Meet across from the park store next to the hatchery. 

Listen to bluegrass music Friday nights from 7 to 9 at the Roaring River State Park amphitheater.  This week’s concert will feature The Mayfields Bluegrass Band. 

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s Movies at Founders Park Series continues this weekend.  See “The Lego Movie 2:  The Second Part,” rated PG, Friday night (6/21) at dusk and “Bumblebee,” rated PG-13, Saturday night (6/22) at the park, 330 E. Water in downtown Springfield.    

The Joplin High School Theatre Department presents “Grease: The Musical” Friday and Saturday night (6/21-6/22) at 7 at the Joplin High School Performing Arts Center, 2104 S. Indiana Ave.  

Springfield Little Theatre presents “Footloose, the Musical” through Sunday (6/23) at the Landers Theatre, 311 E. Walnut. 

Springfield Contemporary Theatre, 302 E. Pershing, presents “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” a murder mystery musical comedy, through June 29. 

The third annual Tumble for SGF is Friday (6/21).  In honor of its late founder, Tom Billionis,’ birthday, the Coffee Ethic on Park Central Square will donate proceeds of all sales Friday to Empowering Youth at Great Circle.  And, at 5, the Tumbler sculpture on the square will be tumbled, and there will be a live DJ and drinks. 

Storytime Saturdays are held Saturday mornings at 10 through October 26 at Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon. 

The exhibit:  “Remembering D-Day: The 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion,” is at the Joplin History and Mineral Museum, 504 S. Schifferdecker Ave. in Joplin through August 31. 

The exhibit, “Route 66: Highway to the Stars,” is at the Joplin Library, 1901 E. 20th Street, through July 31.  Discover the dreams and adventures of Edwin Hubble; learn about Harlow Shapley--the man who determined our solar system's place in the Milky Way; visit some planetariums and observatories; and soar with astronauts.

Springfield-Greene County Park Board pools are open for the season and will remain open through mid August.  Splash ‘n Sizzle discounts ($1 or free with a canned food item) are offered daily after 5:30 p.m. 

Summer Boomapalooza is Friday night (6/21) at 5 at the Branson Ferris Wheel, 3345 W. Highway 76, in Branson.  The free event will feature live music, food trucks and fireworks.  Take blankets or lawn chairs. 

Taste of SoMo is Saturday (6/22) at 1 p.m. on Park Central Square in Springfield.  Sample food and drink from area restaurants and listen to live music.  Food sampling tickets are 10 for $10. 

The Great American Campout is Saturday night (6/22) at the Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site in Ash Grove.  Join site staff for a night of camping under the stars with a campfire and tales of the 19th century Missouri frontier.  Registration is required. 

The Buy Local Ozarks Expo is Saturday (6/22) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Springfield Expo Center.  Vendors from around the Ozarks will offer their goods and services.  Admission is free. 

The Dade County Historical Society presents the Hulston Mill Heritage FestivalSaturday (6/22) starting at 9 a.m.  at Hulston Mill in Everton.  The festival will include music, dance, crafts, mill tours, food and exhibits.  Admission is $5 for adults, and children 18 and under get in free. 

Farmers Market of the Ozark will host a Summer Kickoff! Saturday (6/22) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the market, 2144 E. Republic Rd.

The Butterfly Festival and Young Sprouts in the Garden will be held Saturday (6/22) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center and surrounding area, 2400 S. Scenic in Springfield.  The event will include a caterpillar petting zoo, a costume contest, magic shows and more.  Admission to the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden will be free, and the Dr. Bill Roston Butterfly House will be open. 

Summer SnowFest is Saturday (6/22) from noon to 4 p.m. at Jordan Valley Park.  The event will include a pile of snow from Jordan Valley Ice Park, entertainment, interactive games, snowman building contests and a bounce house.  The Springfield Regional Arts Council will offer free art projects.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center invites anyone 18 or older to go on a six-mile hike Saturday (6/22) at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon.  Registration is required.  

The program “History of the Carver Family Cemetery” is Saturday and Sunday (6/22-6/23) at 1 at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.  Explore the Carver family cemetery with a park ranger to learn about those who are buried there.  

Advance your knowledge of shooting and hunting with a crossbow during a program Saturday morning (6/22) at 8:30 at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range in Ash Grove.  Registration is required. 

“Art Gone Wild!” is Saturday (6/22) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dickerson Park Zoo.  Kids will be able to create ocean and animal-inspired art.  Regular zoo admission applies. 

Lab Coats and Tiaras is Saturday (6/22) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Center of Springfield.  Kids are invited to wear princess costumes for the event, which will include princess meet-and-greets, singing performances and special science activities.  All activities are free with admission to the center. 

The Fix-It Fair will be held Saturday (6/22) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library.  Volunteers will help you repair fixable items. 

The Republic Branch Library invites kids in kindergarten through eighth grade to “Build-It Saturday”Saturday (6/22) at 11 a.m.  A variety of building materials will be provided.  

The fifth annual Four-State Guitar Show is Saturday (6/22) at 10 a.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.  Admission is $10, and kids 12 and younger get in free. 

The Discover Nature Families program, “Fishing 101,” will be held Saturday (6/22) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walter Woods Conservation Area in Joplin.  All participants 16 and older need to have a valid Missouri fishing license.  Registration is required.   

The “World Refugee Day Celebration” is Saturday (6/22) from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Library Station for all ages.  The children’s department will have special activities.  A Korean drumming performance will start at 1, and the documentary, “Salam Neighbor,” will be shown at 6 p.m.  It’s about life in a Syrian refugee camp.  

Adults are invited to make welcome signs, as part of World Refugee Day, to make their neighbors feel welcome Saturday (6/22) at 2 at the Library Station.  Registration is required. 

Southern Missouri Arts Connection and the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra present the Taneycomo Arts PicnicSaturday (6/22) from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Chad A. Fuqua Memorial Park in Hollister.  The free event includes music and local arts and crafts.  Take a picnic dinner. 

The Discover Nature program, “Outdoor Hazards,” will start Saturday morning (6/22) at 10 at the Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center in Branson.  Learn about poison ivy, snakes, spiders and other potentially dangerous things you might encounter in the outdoors.    Registration is required. 

The Moxie Flix Series at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in Springfield, will feature the 1924 film, “Sherlock Jr.” Saturday morning (6/22) at 10.  The series focuses on films kids should see before they turn 13.  Admission is free. 

Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Camdenton will host an “Owl Prowl” Saturday night (6/22) at 8:30.  Meet at the Post Office Shelter. 

Hug-A-Herp Day is Saturday (6/22) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prairie State Park in Mindemines.  The event will feature live animals, crafts and activities. 

"Crafts and Cappuccino"will be held Saturday afternoon (6/22) from 1 to 4 at the Fair Grove Branch Library.  Take your own crafts that you’re working on or use the library’s supplies.  The program is for grade three to adult. 

A film workshop for kids in grades six through 12 will be held Saturday (6/22) at 2 at the Library Center. 

Lunafest 2019, a film festival featuring short films by, for and about women, will be held Sunday (6/23) from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside Drive.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Proceeds benefit the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation. 

A Teen Songwriting Workshop will start Sunday afternoon (6/23) at 2 at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library for kids in grades six through 12. 

Those living with early stage memory loss and their care partners are invited to the program, “Memory Café: Space Race,” Sunday (6/23) at 2 at the Library Station. 

The program, “Little Voices,” for kids age two to second grade, will start Sunday afternoon (6/23) at 3 at the Library Station.  It will feature stories, songs and other activities designed to inspire and support positive change, and is a World Refugee Day event.
